House Episode 4.10 – “It’s a Wonderful Lie” Recap

January 30, 2008 by Lynn

The show began with a mother coaching her daughter while she climbed the face of a rock climbing wall. At the point where the mother was holding the rope to keep her daughter from falling, her hands stopped working and the daughter fell to the ground, breaking her arm.

In the hospital, the new team, surrounded by holiday decorations, began to discuss the puzzling case. Then House came in and started to tear down the decorations.

House: Dr. Kutner, who told you that it would be a good idea to put up superficial representations of the season, celebrating a mythical figure? (Grabs the stuffed Santa as he said it.)
Kutner: It wasn’t me.
House: He lied. Homey knows better (Foreman nods), Himey doesn’t care (Taub) and Huntington’s would have done a better job (Thirteen.)
Thirteen: I don’t have Huntington’s.
House: That you know of.
Foreman: Why would you…?
House: Because I almost got sued when I called you “Honey Buns”

Welcome back, my favorite grump! Ahh! House is back!! :-)

This Just In! Writers’ Strike Amazing News!!

January 30, 2008 by Lynn

7108.jpgOh, Please! Say it IS so!!

Here’s what TV spoiler king, Michael Ausiello says in today’s Ask Ausiello:

Question: I hear that the strike is over! Is it true?— Danouk
Ausiello: Nothing’s official, but the buzz is that a tentative agreement has been reached, with an announcement coming as early as tomorrow. But it’s hard to tell what’s solid intel and what’s just spin. To wit: In the past 24 hours, one source close to the negotiations insisted that talk of a resolution was way premature. “There’s no deal,” maintained my spy. “That’s just misinformation put out by the AMPTP to pressure the WGA.” But moments before I put this column to bed, I heard from another very plugged-in source that the deal is done. Short story shorter: There’s cause for optimism, but not celebration. Yet.

Question: If the strike ends in the next week or so, can the current TV season be salvaged? — Donald
Ausiello: Depends on the network and the show. A source at one of the Big 4 tells me that should the strike end by mid-February, one best-case scenario being bandied about has established series going back into production and working through June, making more episodes for this season and some for next. Then they’ll take a summer break before starting regular production on next season. The reason for this is twofold: They don’t want to bail out on this season, but they also don’t want to go to the expense of putting shows back into production for just two or three episodes. One industry observer describes this as “a smart plan,” while acknowledging that there’s another variable in all this: the actors. “The trouble is, a lot of actors schedule hiatus movies, or just elaborate vacations. And if they ask them to work through certain dates, that could trigger some contract issues.”

A MOTHER WITH A MYSTERIOUS MEDICAL ILLNESS MAY HAVE A SECRET THAT COULD KILL ON “HOUSE” TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, ON FOX

Guest Star Janel Moloney in All-New Episode

House and the team treat a woman who suffers from a sudden paralysis of the hands that causes an injury to her daughter while she’s spotting her at an indoor rock-climbing wall. As House probes the woman and her injured daughter for any leads as to what might be causing her condition, House is convinced that the woman is withholding information. When the woman’s daughter reveals some very descriptive details about her mother’s personal life, House isn’t so sure the woman hides anything about herself from the people around her, especially her daughter. As the team runs tests to find out what caused her paralysis, the woman loses her eyesight and her system begins to shut down, and House and the team are baffled as to whether it is the woman herself, or her own physiology that is lying to them. Meanwhile, House lets his team participate in a Secret Santa gift exchange, but he puts his own twist on the holiday tradition in the “It’s a Wonderful Lie” episode of HOUSE airing Tuesday, Jan. 29 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Interview With Mira Sorvino About Her Role on House

January 25, 2008 by Lynn

Mira SorvinoWe know that episode 4.11, Frozen, will air immediately follwing the Super Bowl this year. It’s the most coveted TV time slot available and House has been the one to score it this year. Mira Sorvino will be a guest star in that episode and she recently did an interview about it. Here’s an excerpt:

So what is it that turns you on to this show, this character, and this particular story?
Well, I’m a crazy House fan. It’s my favorite show on T.V. and it’s funny because once I got pregnant with my first child, I ended up watching a lot more T.V. than I had for years and I just became absolutely addicted to House and just thought it was so intelligent and thought Hugh is so fantastic and the writing and the other characters. Everything about it just drew me in every week and continues to do so.

So when I met Hugh at the Golden Globe three years ago, and I was five months pregnant and nominated for Human Trafficking and he was nominated for House and we were all seated at the same table, I just started gushing about how much I loved the show. And I think I might have frightened him.

But then a few years later they called and said “We know Mira loves the show. We think we have one of the best female characters we’ve ever written on it. Would she like to come and do an episode?” I was really excited to do it, entering the world of my favorite show. It’s the equivalent of me as a child getting to go and … in the Six Million Dollar Man.

How funny that you still allow yourself to be a geeky fan instead of totally jaded by it all.
Well, I think the funny things is because when you’re a film actor, you kind of reserve T.V. as the last bastion of suspension of disbelief. You get used to the characters and you don’t really think about the way that it’s made. When I watch movies, I’m a lot more critical about the stunts, the edits, the performances. But on T.V. that’s my little place where, “Okay, I’m just watching.” I’m like everybody else; I’m just a spectator enjoying this.

Be sure to go read the entire interview here.

Lisa Edelstein Talks About the Screen Actors’ Guild

January 25, 2008 by Lynn

sag-awards.jpgIn preparation for the broadcast of what may be the only real awards show to air this year, The Screen Actors’ Guild Awards, some actors weighed in on why the SAG is so important to them. Here’s what House’s Lisa Edelstein had to say:

Lisa Edelstein

Lisa Edelstein, “House”
“I got my SAG card for an Oliver Stone movie, ‘The Doors.’ I was Jim Morrison’s makeup artist backstage at “The Ed Sullivan Show.” And I had to speak — if I didn’t speak, I wouldn’t get my SAG card — so he told me to just make something up, which I did, but I realized I’d made up a really short line. So every take, I made my line longer, until finally I got yelled at. He said, ‘You’re stopping the whole scene with your line!’ and I had to go back to that first line I made up.”

The event will be Simulcast Live on Sunday, Jan. 27, on TNT and TBS at 8 PM ET/PT, 7 PM CT, 6 PM MT.
