Actors May Boycott the Golden Globes

by Lynn on January 6th, 2008

Hugh Laurie winning Golden Globe in 2006Both Hugh Laurie and House have been nominated for Golden Globe awards, but may not be there to receive them, even if they win. Heck, the awards might even be cancelled. The Screen Actors Guild has been working to get the actors to support the Writers’ Guild strike by not showing up for the Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

After canvassing nominees over the past several weeks, Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg said in a statement, “there appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross” the picket lines to present or accept an award.

Since the Golden Globe Awards are set to air on NBC on January 13, this could be a big problem for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which stages the Golden Globes. No one is sure yet what will happen to the Golden Globes program, or even what to expect when the Academy Awards roll around. The People’s Choice Awards are set to air this Tuesday, January 8. It may be interesting to see how things will be handled if the actors refuse to show up to present or accept the awards.

After all the pressure on the media moguls, it’s amazing to me that they are still refusing to sit down to talk. And if they are refusing to work with the Writers’ Guild, what happens this summer when the Screen Actors’ Guild contracts are due for renewal? These media Fat Cats need to come down from their ivory towers and see that the people who write and act in their shows deserve to be compensated fairly for their work. That’s my two cents. I’ll kepp you posted as new developments arise.

You can support the writers by sending pencils. Find out more here.

I think the strike must go on. I agree with you that the media owners must see all this situation. In Brazil is the same thing, a few things only works when a strike begins! Hugs.
