Band From TV on American Idol Gives Back

March 30, 2008 by Lynn

idolgivesback.jpgHugh Laurie and the rest of his band, Band From TV will be performing on the Idol Gives Back special that airs on April 9.

“It’s sort of a top-secret thing, which I just blew,” says [Greg Grunberg], who plays drums in the band that includes Chris Kelley, Bob Guiney, David Anders, Bonnie Somerville, Brad Savage, Jesse Spencer, Rich Winer and Barry Sarna. “We’re pre-taping it on April 6, and I’m so incredibly nervous to play at the Kodak Theater in front of all these people.”

Grunberg says Denton’s “DH” co-star Teri Hatcher “is actually singing with us on that, then we’re playing this big event called ‘Comedy for a Cure’ that same night at the Avalon.”

The Band From TV will be in very good company with the other stars scheduled to appear: Bono, Brad Pitt, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, the Super Bowl-winning brother quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning and “Idol” alums Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood.

There’s also a new DVD coming out soon called Hoggin’ All the Covers. What a great name for a DVD of cover songs! I’ll let you know when I know more about the release.

David Morse Speaks About His Role on House

March 26, 2008 by Lynn

David MorseFellow House fan Grace sent me this little tidbit of information David Morse gave to TVGuide.com about his time on House last season:

TVGuide.com: How did it feel to stick it to Hugh Laurie’s curmudgeon on House?
Morse: [Laughs] Right now it feels painful because there are so many people who hold it against me! I had worked with David Chase, who ran Hack, and when they came up with the idea of a character who could stand up to Hugh Laurie’s character, he called me to see if I would be interested. I had not watched the show, so I mentioned it to some people I was with, and they said, “You have to do it!” It is such an unbelievable show and this character frankly needs somebody to go after him and put him in his place. So I said I’d give it a shot. It truly was great fun. Hugh is just amazing, and he really is a formidable character to go up against.

The Question of House’s Cane

March 24, 2008 by Lynn

Hugh LaurieThe show House has advisors to keep the show’s medical references accurate, but has anyone ever addressed the matter of House’s improper use of the cane? I had wondered about it myself a time or two, but didn’t pay that much attention because it’s not my area of expertise. But I just got a message from a real-life physical therapist, Dee Dee, so tells us the real scoop about proper cane usage:

I have been watching House since it premiered. I am a Physical Therapist by trade and watching House ambulate with his cane has bothered me since it first came on tv. I was taught in PT school (by lecture, by demonstration and by complicated math problelms) that you always carry your assistive device (i.e. cane) in the hand opposite the injury. House should be using the cane in his left hand NOT his right one. By using the cane that way, it applies less stress and weight on the injured limb, so less pain. Thanks.

Thanks, Dee Dee for the correct information!!

I tend to be generous with these sorts of things when watching TV shows, because without the info from professionals like Dee Dee I wouldn’t really know the difference anyway and I watch the show for the characters.

But now that we know the real cane scoop, what do you think of this information? Does it bother you to know that no one has corrected this? Does it matter to you at all? Leave a comment to share your thoughts!

Preview Clips From Street Kings!

March 24, 2008 by Lynn

streetkingsxsmall.jpgAs you know, Hugh Laurie is starring in the new crime drama, Street Kings that opens in theaters on April 11. We know that it will have to be gritty and raw because it’s from director David Ayer who also wrote and directed Harsh Times, and wrote Training Day.

Here’s a site with numerous preview clips from the new movie, but they don’t embed so you’ll have to go to that site to view them. Hugh is featured in Clip 2 – You Need Me and in Clip 5 – You Gonna Cry to Daddy.

(Thanks to Trisha for the tip!)

Who Are the Top TV Doctors?

March 23, 2008 by Lynn

Hugh LaurieAccording to The Guardian blogger, Anna Pickard, House is the top Television doctor. Here’s her list:

  1. Dr. Greg House, House MD
  2. Doogie Howser MD
  3. Doctor Doug Ross, ER
  4. Dr Finlay, Dr Finlay’s Casebook (series in the UK)
  5. Sam Ryan, Silent Witness
  6. Dr Kildare
  7. Doctor Zoidberg, Futurama
  8. Karl Kennedy, Neighbours (series in the UK)
  9. Sheila Sabatini, from early nineties show Surgical Spirit
  10. Doctor Who

She’s looking at the television doctors from UK television, so I think there might be a few different ones if we listed them here. I’m thinking that a few obvious ones in the US should be on the list too. What about Dr. McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy; Dr Oz, The Oprah Winfrey Show; Dr. Temperance Brennan, Bones; Dr. Alexx Woods, CSI: Miami and a whole lot more.

What are some of your other favorite TV doctors? Leave a comment to let us know!
