Band From TV on American Idol Gives Back

March 30, 2008 by Lynn

idolgivesback.jpgHugh Laurie and the rest of his band, Band From TV will be performing on the Idol Gives Back special that airs on April 9.

“It’s sort of a top-secret thing, which I just blew,” says [Greg Grunberg], who plays drums in the band that includes Chris Kelley, Bob Guiney, David Anders, Bonnie Somerville, Brad Savage, Jesse Spencer, Rich Winer and Barry Sarna. “We’re pre-taping it on April 6, and I’m so incredibly nervous to play at the Kodak Theater in front of all these people.”

Grunberg says Denton’s “DH” co-star Teri Hatcher “is actually singing with us on that, then we’re playing this big event called ‘Comedy for a Cure’ that same night at the Avalon.”

The Band From TV will be in very good company with the other stars scheduled to appear: Bono, Brad Pitt, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, the Super Bowl-winning brother quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning and “Idol” alums Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood.

There’s also a new DVD coming out soon called Hoggin’ All the Covers. What a great name for a DVD of cover songs! I’ll let you know when I know more about the release.

hmm the article doesn’t mention hugh laurie. does that mean he’s not going to play with the band on april 9th?

  2. Sally says:

Maybe we’re supposed to assume he’s playing? Or maybe he isn’t.

  3. Deysi307 says:

wow !… that sounds great !!

    I can’t wait for april 9th !!

  4. echo says:

this is just an instinct, but if the official press release on the event does not list Hugh as part of the band, then he isn’t scheduled to perform. too bad if that’s true!

  5. echo says:

sorry! just found the first paragraph of the press release… and it does indeed name Hugh as one of the members. whew! that was close. :)

“Heroes” regular Greg Grunberg, “House” star Hugh Laurie, “Desperate Housewives’” James Denton and the other members of the Band from TV will be rockin’ the house on Fox’s second “American Idol Gives Back” special April 9, reveals Grunberg.”

  6. Dibacelar says:

you scared me!! Glad to know that hugh will be there:)

  7. lola says:

Phew! I was getting scared there. Plus, I’m very excited to hear Jesse play- the fiddle, I think?- because I’m suffering a serious Dr. Chase deficiency this season. 5 ccs of Aussie, stat!

  8. kole says:

I went to watch the filming of the Idol performance today at the Kodak Theater (it filmed today and airs wednesday). Sorry to say that Hugh wasn’t there. The rest of the band was fabulous though and Jesse Spencer was an absolute delight on the violin. The band was great and it’s totally worth watching on TV.

hi, new to this site, i usually hang out at the “ugly betty news”. But i am a fan of House too. nice site! i wasn’t planning on watching idol tonight , but now i will …to see Hugh.

  10. Maria says:

Why wasn´t Hugh Laurie playing that day? What happened? I was really disapointed.
Is a good band though, but they just need to be complete. All of the band members.
Hugh and the keyboards are really necessary!!!!
I love Dr. House, I´m a big fan!!!
