David Shore Interview
April 15, 2008 by Lynn
A lot of House fans will be upset to read this, but according to this interview that David Shore did with the Chicago Tribune, Cameron & Chase are not coming back to their old roles on the show. The new team is just that, the NEW team. There’s a lot of show info in the interview, so be sure to go read the whole thing, but here’s an excerpt:
Shore said there are no immediate plans for either doctor to rejoin House’s team, and he added that putting Cameron and Chase back in the forefront is not necessarily “what the show needs.” Though they may get a little more attention in the next round of episodes (they’d had little or no screen time some weeks), the show will still have a large cast of characters to deal with.
“Cameron and Chase are certainly not on screen as much as they used to be, but the stuff they’re doing, I think, takes on a different weight and a greater weight,” Shore said.
“I’m going to say something your readers aren’t going to like, but as someone running a television show, you have to be very careful – people think they want something and they do want something, but it’s not what they need, shall we say, and it’s not what the show needs,” Shore said later in the interview. “It’s great that they like those characters. … You want people to want more of things. You have to be careful on what you deliver.”

noooo! cameron is my favourite :’( at least they’ll still be in the show… i’d stop watching if cameron was gone… i’d probably stop watching if chase was gone… argh… why do you do this to me david!
I LOVE THIS INTERVIEW! David Shore thank you!Leave House/Cuddy/Wilson ALONE and I am more than happy !!I am gonna miss seeing Chase though! Of course I am not gonna miss Cameron, she was never an interesting character (IMO)she was kinda boring and irritating…..Anyway I can’t wait for the episodes to begin !
i’m not watching the show anymore. the only reason i watch season 4 in the first place is because of the 10 seconds that cameron was on in some eposides. good luck to all you house fans. the show is going to suck without chase and cameron!
I don’t think so Vicky!House will always be a HIT because Hugh Laurie and the rest are doing an amazing job! Chase(who I ADORE) and Cameron no matter how sad may sound are not so important into the storyline of the show anymore!!!
Oh, no. I’m a total House addict, and my love for Hugh means I would watch it no matter what happened…but Cam and Chase need to return. Also, David Shore came off as rather cocky and arrogant in this interview, for some reason. I didn’t like the interviewer either- she should have kept her opinions to herself. I, for one, think that Cam was an interesting, if very annoying, addition to the show. If entertainment value isn’t enough of a reason to keep a character, why is Amber (CTB) still around? And of course Chase was never vital to the storyline…because they never developed his potentially fascinating character beyond, “daddy issues, has the hots for Cameron, sucks up to House.” This show really needs to get it together. David Shore needs to return to his senses and bring back Cam and Chase in SOME capacity. I don’t care if they’re no longer working for House, as long as they’re an important part of the show!
I think the Chase and Cameron are important to the show …. It is clear that Hugh Laurie is great … but Cam and Chase were part of the success so far … Then I do not see why they take …
I hope they really have a significant role outside the team …. but because I think many fans will make as Vick ….
As I read the interview over again I can kind of understand what he’s saying about needing the new team and kind of evolving, but I agree with lola about the character development, for both chase and cameron. I feel that we know about as much of their histories as what we know about say 13 whom I feel we know more than enough about - she bores me… and I don’t like Taub much either - he’s like a less interesting Foreman in my opinion. The old team were better and I’m very glad that they will still be in the show in some capacity, I just hope they aren’t a little side-line like they are now because I still have so many questions about them and I think there is so much more we can explore with them - eg. we never found out why chase hates fat people, and we never found out why cameron loves damaged people - and yes they are probably just boring personality quirks with no real basis, but dammit, I want to know!.
See I agree that the show will still be brilliant thanks to Hugh Laurie no matter what they do, BUT the interactions between House and his team are soooo important and I’d be really sad to see the old team go away because I enjoyed them significantly more than the new ones. I do like the new chase and cameron with their almost friendship type relationships with house, but we hardly ever get to see that and its sad… now I know how Wilson fans feel… rarely getting to see your favourite character! lol I’m personally not a fan of Wilson but I love the way he and House relate to each other so I’d be devastated if he left the show too. My real question to David and the writers is this: of the original three team-members, why was Foreman so special that he should get to stay with House?! lol … I find him to be the most irritating and boring character from the original 6 main characters! and yet he’s now more important than Chase and Cameron … i don’t get it!!! gah!
P.S. I don’t understand why so many people hate Cameron… what’s so annoying about her? sure, she can be a stubborn, self-righteous, goody-two-shoes with a crush on her boss, but that just makes her funny and cute… how does that make her any worse than say Chase who can be a prejudiced, suck-up with a crush on a colleague, or Foreman who can be mean and arrogant and dumps people on valentine’s day … everyone has annoying traits… what makes cameron so much worse??
Agree with some of what you said Katie! As for Cameron she can be too many things but cute and funny aren’t none of them! And no, I don’t hate Cameron, I just don’t find her interesting as a character and I may sound like a b*tch right now but JM may be a really pretty girl but her acting skills haven’t impressed me either! You really think it’s so important for the show to find out why Chase hates fat people and why Cameron loves damages ones? Foreman is irritating from time to time but let’s be honest here,he is a fine doctor and House respec him and values his opinions….Don’t get me wrong, these are only my thoughts, doesn’t mean that I am right about them! Don’t be so negative about the new team, just give them some time, this season was pretty ruined by the strike so we didn’t have the chance to get to know them better! !
that´s ok by me…i guess i´ve gotten used to the old team.
To maintain the older crew is better, because they are treated with more depth. Change to a new team, in my opinion was not cool, and, this 4th. season is very boring! Even the jokes of House are boring!!!!
What??? & just 2 add on to all of that, no Huddy, not even Hameron.. House is a world wide sex symbol & yet he doesn’t get any sex!! Gawsh, life must suck for a sex symbol… seriously..
I am a fan of JM so I guess our opinions differ there nima, but by no means do I dislike the new team, I just like them significantly less than I liked the original team… and to be fair, I’m sure they can work it out so that there is a relatively fair balance of all the characters to keep everyone happy… As far as what I think is important to the show, yes and no. I won’t die miserable if I don’t find out the little answers to questions about Chase and Cameron, but I just feel there could still be character development with the old team (including Cuddy and Wilson for that matter) and already I feel like I know everything that I need to about 13 and Taub. Kutner I don’t know much about but then I don’t care, even though he is by far my favourite newbie lol. I guess that’s kind of my point though. With the old team, finding out about them was a gradual process that kept me interested and, in my opinion, the speed with which we’ve dealt with the new characters has kind of robbed me of that. 13 was all mysterious and ooh what’s her big secret for ages… well I just didn’t care to be honest…but don’t get me wrong, I still like the show - this season has been entertaining and very funny at times - I just get really disappointed if I don’t see Cameron and Chase - their 20 seconds per alternate episode is kind of the best bit, in my opinion… it’s funny to see them with House and with each other. The new team just doesn’t cut it for me yet I’m afraid…
Also, I really don’t think House respects Foreman any more than he respects Chase or Cameron. I just think he has different relationships with each of them. It’s my opinion that the House-Foreman likeness they’ve been developing is the main reason why they keep him in a more important position than the others, but to me it’s unnecessary, because without Cameron and Chase, Foreman’s role still feels insignificant to me… I am interested to see the next four episodes though just to tie up this season before I make any real judgment! and I have great respect to the writers and creaters regardless of what they do to my characters lol because it is a brilliant show, I just fell in love with old House and his old team and I don’t like change any more than House does haha (yes I would probably keep my own blood stained carpet too … jk)
I miss Cameron!! She is my favorite character! I am pleased that we will get to see more of her and Chase, but they do need to either return to House’s team, or be more pronounced in each episode! Also I really don’t like the new team, they are like totally boring versions of the old team. BRING BACK CAMERON!!!
The new team isn’t very team so they really need to keep the old team around. What is with these show runners? They create a show, it does well and then they start deciding what the audience needs with zero regard for what the audience wants. (Or in this case for the fact that the audience is saying the new team is a snore) Show runners, you need to check your ego at the door and stop fixing things that aren’t broken!
I don´t like Cameron. I don´t care about Chase. I only want more screen time for the Holy Trinity (House&Wilson&Cuddy). So thank you David Shore, this interview makes me realize I will keep watching House MD for a long, long time
