The House / Hameron / Huddy Question

April 21, 2008 by Lynn

House fans, you aren’t the only ones with opinions about who would be best for House to get romantic with. TV Guide’s Matt Roush answers this question from a fellow fan:

Question: I know there is to be a division of ’shippers in any fan base, but I have to say, I just don’t get the Hameron ’shippers on House. I was a Hameron ’shipper all the way through the second season, but right now it seems not only unlikely, but also out of character. House pays prostitutes for sex and even slept with a married woman, so we know that he has very little qualms about getting his rocks off when he feels like it. So why would House not have had sex with the beautiful Cameron when he had the chance all the way back in Season 1? I think he knew, given her feelings for him, that it would be wrong to do so while having absolutely no feelings for her — one of the few decent things he’s ever done. Also, Cameron is clearly not House’s type. I’m not saying House doesn’t care about her on some level, but I really think it’s in more of a fatherly way, despite his inappropriateness towards her (and all females). He’s nurtured her into being a much better doctor and, quite frankly, less of a wimp. They are just completely wrong for each other romantically. I think, if anyone, Doctor Cuddy is more of his type. Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein have great chemistry, and their scenes together are funny and interesting. I’m looking forward to that being explored next year, and I can only hope that it doesn’t end too soon for the writers to satisfy the vocal Hameron minority. That would be a shark-jump.— Reina
Matt Roush: And you think I’m going to jump into the middle of this debate why? You’d think the fact they’ve marginalized Cameron so much this season would have already put the kibosh on the notion of ingénue and former mentor becoming a serious item. But Cuddy and House? So much more fun to contemplate, not that I’m pining for the grouchy doc to get serious (if that’s even possible) with any of the regulars. Personally, I still miss Sela Ward.

Okay, I’ll start (at the risk of a lot of devoted shippers yelling at me)…. of course House isn’t going to get with Cameron, for all the reasons stated above… and because she isn’t what House wants in a partner, as gorgeous as she is, she isn’t nearly strong enough or sassy enough to compete with his extraordinary brain and adolescent antics… as for House and Cuddy, well, that’s a lot closer to possible but I’m not sure House would ever give his ‘boss’ that kind of sexual power over him… and just like Matt, I miss Sela Ward as Stacy, that was completely House’s style.. (even though their on-screen chemistry needed a little more time to settle out… it was still a bit awkward…). I say, in the final episode of Season 7, as the series finale, House and Stacy get discovered together again. :)

  2. gen says:

house and cuddy definitely have some serious flirting going on.
they have chemistry on-screen, and they really look good together :)

  3. Reina says:

    hey, I wrote that! Cool.

  4. Camille says:

I agree with house and cuddy because i really think they’re more of a good match and i really love how they talk to each other…

  5. Lexi says:

Okay, lets face it — House isn’t going to settle down in a romantic relationship with either Cameron OR Cuddy — or anyone, for that matter. A happy House — would not be very House – like. If anything, House will find love at the very last episode of the show.

Although hot, crazy love making in Cuddy’s office does seem like it might happen, given all their sexual tension. But an actual relationship? Not gonna happen.

  6. Monica says:

I would love to see House with Cuddy, but i don’t think it would last long, tough

  7. ruby says:

I love Cuddy. Love the sexual tension and fighting and nitpicking back and forth. I do miss Sela Ward, though. Be nice to see her come back and get between them.

  8. Alice says:

As a Hameron Fan, I didn’t mind if House and Cuddy hooked up but my only problem is that the way they wrote Cuddy. In season 1 she was a strong woman who could say No to House and although there was some chemisty there was no indication of a love match. Now, throughout the seasons of House and as the “Chemistry” between her and House has evolved, she has become a doormat. I’d would support Huddy if it was season 1 Cuddy. At lease Cameron has evolved from naive to a great doctor.

  9. Sarah says:

I definitely miss Stacey…they were so right for each other! I am just hoping that Sela Ward will come back for at least 1 episode!

  10. Chris says:

    Sela Ward is old…..

  11. Lola says:

Sela Ward was great, but they’ve definitively closed off that road. It would be odd to bring her back now. The Cameron thing is overplayed, and should have achieved closure long ago- however, I think they WILL eventually have hot sex once, which will totally screw up their relationship forever. In order for that to happen, though, something has to change between them- maybe House’s amnesia? A drug-influenced hookup, like Cam/Chase in S.2? And the same thing goes for Huddy. The way their relationship is now, they can’t just have them randomly start making out. It wouldn’t make any sense. I think Kate from Frozen is the best prospect right now. She should come back- maybe for a finale ep.- and get together with House.

  12. Reina says:

I agree a happy House isn’t House but House can be with someone and still torture himself. How could he not do that? House and Stacy couldn’t be together because, as Wilson said, House doesn’t want to be happy. I think it’s possible for House to be with someone and still be a curmudgeon. Especially if that person is someone he buts heads with a lot and is likely to fight with often (IE- Cuddy). They get along but don’t at the same time. It’s perfect for him. But I understand how it would get stagnant.

  13. Alison says:

i really didn’t like the stacy arc. i mean the story line was okay, but hugh laurie and sela ward lacked major chemistry. go team huddy!

  14. buffy says:

I may be crazy, but I think House sent Stacy away because after his conversation with Mark in the hospital hallway, and how Cuddy reacted to their relationship in her office when considering surgery for the mom, he actually wanted to do the right thing. Of all people, I would have thought he would have explained this to Wilson, instead of letting Wilson hammer him about always wanting to be miserable. House wanted her, but he also wanted her to be happy, and was willing to give up his own happiness so she could have hers. That’s love. I’m would have liked to see Stacy come back for an episode when House got shot, though.
Huddy would be an interesting and bold gester on the part of the writers. That could be fun.

  15. gail says:

    HUDDY!!!!!!!

  16. Laura says:

Hugh and Lisa have excellent chemistry which tranforms into sizzling and sexy scenes when they interact on screen as House & Cuddy. I have been waiting since Season 1 for them to steam up my tv and have hopes it will happen in Season 5.

  17. Reina says:

Buffy, I really would like to know how Cuddy talking about the surgery for the mom was a direct reaction to his relationship with Stacy. I genuinely would because I expected her to say something to him about why it was wrong and she didn’t but if what she said was in any way discouraging it, I’d like to hear your take on it.

  18. tess says:

I would rather house didn’t get anyone than huddy it makes me SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. CHARLENE says:

    Lets face it no huddy fan will like any hameron scenes and like wise i too would rather house wasn’t into anyone than HUDDY its just so boring!!;
they will jave sex house will use it against her when he wants something and she will lose any self respect she had- huddy is just houses way of getting power because house is house and he likes to have control over everything

  20. Gra says:

Cameron ya tuvo su oportunidad y Stacy tambièn… que venga Cuddy!!!! Es buena pareja y las escenas son maravillosas.

  21. buffy says:

    reina,
When Cuddy was making fun of him, saying Stacy would “defend the big, mean doctor”, “and although his cane makes me melt, do the damn surgery”, he must have realized that Cuddy might not let it go. She would make fun, Wilson would make ethical remarks, and Mark wanted her back so desperately, he really did not have much choice, did he? I was so sad to see her go.

  22. Reina says:

Thanks. I wasn’t really glad to see her go, honestly thought. I didn’t ship for anyone back then and really had very little feelings about who house should be with but I was kind of tired of her and her flat scenes with Hugh.

  23. whatdoesitmatter says:

House and Cuddy would be a great couple…I was a Hameron fan at the begnning but now I’m totally not!!!I don’t even know why i was….Cuddy and House make each others everything! If that made any sense.I thought Cuddy was jealous when Stacy was there and I wished at one time that she would come back…But now I want House and Cuddy to be together so I don’t want her back!I’m sorry to say that but it is true…I just don’t know how House and Cuddy are going to get together…

  24. Bia says:

well…. I´m a Huddy shipper, always been, always will be.
The thing is. As Cameron said, he couldn´t love her at the 1º and 2º season because he still was stucked with his felling for Stacy, but now, we can see that in a way or another, he let it go. About Cuddy, we see their amazing chemistry since the very first episode. Then, in that episode, Humpy Dumpty, Cameron interrogates Cuddy about why she still haven´t fired House, and her answer is amazing. “The question is not why I still haven´t fired him. Is WHY I hired him.”
Then, in the 3º season, episode “Top Secret” we find out that they have once had an one-night-stand. and now at the 4º season, things are getting hotter than it never was at the other seasons. I think that House does love Cuddy and Cuddy does love House, but they just can´t jump at each other because their relationship boss/employee, what´s really not a big deal for House, though. I believe they will end up together, fighting and forgiving each other all the time. It´s like a fatal desease, starts little, unharmful, until it kills you.
As Christopher Walker sings at “Hairspray” “It´s like a fatal desease, babe, there´s no cure, so let´s this fever rage.” xD
    *sorry any typing mistake*

  25. Bia says:

what I really mean is, GO CUDDY!

  26. tess says:

ANYONE WHO SAYS THEY WERE AN FAN OF AN SHIP WAS NEVER AN TURE FAN ANYWAY YOU’ILL PROBABLY LIKE 13 AFTER SEASON 5!!!

  27. Tamiris says:

    ERRO, HAMERON (2102)

  28. Alex says:

He’s too miserable to last with anyone. Doesn’t matter who he hooks up with. I just hate the way the writer’s have reduced Cuddy to this weak ass puddle that is a total doormat. Her character was much better written in the 1st and 2nd season.

  29. lea says:

Someone pls murder David Shore if Huddy doesn’t happen in season 5! Its so blady frustrating. Just let it happen already. He’s going against the forsec of nature!

  30. claudya says:

Well, i think House really don´t like Cameron, it´s a fact in this 4th. season. House and Lisa could be a lovely couple!!! I think in the serie is missing a little romance for the all team!!!! All they need is love!!!!!

  31. myx says:

Hey what about house and wilson?! Jokes, just thought id throw it out there. Hilson!

  32. annabelle says:

I don’t really understand Huddy relationship fans. I think the two of them have great chemistry, but that’s it. They don’t make sense together emotionally. While I think they would have hot sex that would be all. She is also too much like Stacey in the strong sarcastic woman department. While I don’t really think Cameron and House will ever get together I think they are a better match because she is so different from Stacey. It would be a completely new experience for house. I guess I also like it cause I heard that Jennifer Morrison and Hugh Laurie had been hoping they writers would put them together.

  33. maria says:

    hi i love house

i live in new york with my grandma
    i have one girl cousin
my cousin lives in new jersey
    your a good actress
    your fan maria

  36. Andrea says:

“I guess I also like it cause I heard that Jennifer Morrison and Hugh Laurie had been hoping they writers would put them together.”
^ True that. I heard/read that somewhere too (just like that thing about Jennifer facing all Hameron fans when she was in Italy :P ).

Technically, I can vote for both ships. Hameron AND Huddy.

But I have some views on it. Hameron will mean a break up between Chase and Cameron. That’ll have some ‘emotional’ scenes, as Chase is supposed to really love Cam and such. Then if House and her relationship ends up badly, we’ll have an very, very hurt Cameron. Lot’s of attention to that.

For Huddy.. sure it would be interesting to see those two in an relationship that doesn’t only excist for the sex. But to be fair, I like the chemistry and tention they have going on right now much better. If they have an relationship, these two have a huge chance to ‘go with the flow’.

They either have to get someone that isn’t a series regular or just leave House single forever (but do let him have a kid or w/e, helloooo the House-hood can’t become an endangered species). Even tho I do like one of those two ships.

  37. Tammy says:

I prefer Hameron, as much as I like Cuddy sometimes, I don’t think I could stand Huddy. Dunno, there’s just something there that I don’t believe nor do I want to see.

  38. Laila says:

Huddy forever…mad mad chemistry…every other relationship eg Hameron…lacks majorly in chemistry….even though Huddy may not work out in the end…those 2 have such intense chemistry it would be a shame to see nothing happening…

  39. Mariah says:

Alright, I don’t understand where people come off saying House and Cameron have NO Chemistry. THEY HAVE AMAZING CHEMISTRY!
Seasons one and two Cameron was a little awkward around House, looking up to him as the big bad boss and seeing that no one really cared for him, and so she became attached. I love the idea of them being together. If they do eventually Hook-up as a one nigh thing, great, but I would love to see them go further than that. I know it wouldn’t be very house-like (understatement), but doesn’t the thought of House ending up alone make you depressed?
After the pain of crippling his leg and losing the woman he loved, I for one think he deserves to be happy. Cameron is perfect, she has grown strong and has her own opinions, doesn’t get intimidated. She fits with him well, and they share something no one else has shared with House through the whole series; She makes him FEEL. (Well other than Stacy of course)
Do you see the looks he puts on when she surprises him or says something hurtful? (Examples : “I don’t miss you.”, “…Goodbye House”) He looks sad, actually an emotion we can read on his face. Sad, disappointed, whatever. And they share intense looks and ideas and you can completely tell that he misses her on his team. when she left briefly in season one did you see how devastated he was? It was the worst we’d seen him react to anything other than a patient or his Vicodin.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Cuddy, and i wouldn’t be against their hook-up, but Cameron and House deserve something together, it’s been hinted at FOREVER and the disappearance of her in season 4 and 5 is so frustrating. Something’s gotta give between them, because even to the Hameron haters, everyone KNOWS he cares for her pretty deeply. Contrary to popular belief i think he hates when he hurts her. I Totally think they will be ready for a relationship near the end. Cameron and House both have suffered relationship pain, and they compliment each other. Once again, i know it would be weird to see House in a relationship, but House has done some weird things over the seasons that have been against his nature. HOUSE and CAMERON deserve to be happy, they are both pivotal characters and should not be ignored. Don’t ruel out a Hameron comeback, they’ll be comin with a vengance

  40. gabrielle says:

Thank you Mariah! They have hinted at hameron for ever! I hate when shows practically tell you it’s there and gonna happen then go sike. Cameron accepts who he is and would be good for him. Huddy would not last like stacy. I HATE stacy. She hurt house ok and Huddy would be boring. Cameron and House DO have chemistry and he DOES give her all the looks and remarks. Everyone in the show sees it too! I am so pissed that Hameron is nearly nonexsitant now. They have to bring it back somehow and put a stop to Huddy. I do not like the fact that Cameron was with Chase and such. House is good alone, but it would make me sad if it ended that way and would take away my hope in love. Cameron has evovled so much as a chaachter and it’s sad to see all of that go to no use.

    PLEASE WRITERS BRING BACK HAMERON!!!

  41. Brandon says:

House and Cuddy are perfect for each other, except for the 95% of the time they completely don’t agree on anything and are struggling for power. Maybe if one of them got a different job… but as it is if they got together they’d be fighting until Judgement Day.

On the other hand House and Cameron have established roles, can agree and just overall make a great team. House and Cuddy don’t make a team, they make a bloodbath. Overall the greatest reason to go Hameron was pointed out by Mariah, they’ve both suffered and just have a deeper relationship than the Huddy phenom. House doesn’t need someone to be constantly at war with, House/Cameron just need someone who gets them, on some level they’re deeper than even House/Wilson.

Chase is going south in a hurry, that can been seen from a mile away. Look for House/Cameron, even if it takes a season or two.

  42. Brucas4evah says:

Omg guys… can’t you all see it? As much as I like Cuddy and Huddy actually sounds hot Cameron is the only one who’s capable releasing House from his pain and make him feel different, she knows who he is !

  43. Mariah says:

Yes, thank you! the Hameron’s are coming out of hiding. All I have been hearing lately is Huddy Huddy Huddy. So i watched their kiss as it was pretty good, but kinda weird. Not in a House-shouldn’t-be-kissing-his-boss way, but in a Their-lips-were-acting-weird way. I don’t know, it was a little awkward. But good for them, it has been a long time coming.

But I still stick with House and Cam, they had a few small moments in “The Itch” where they talked a bit. I did gag when I saw the Cameron Chase scenes. Ugh, that should be done already, they are so yuck for each other. Chase is becoming a introverted bore, he seems monotonous and bland. We only ever see him operating now. At least when he was on the team we saw his kiss-ass-ness and some personality.

Cameron is still awesome, it was good to see more of her. I liked how she was still getting attached to her patients, thats one of the things that annoys me and I still love it about her. Anyways, Hameron is dying out a bit, but it WILL be back. DShore has hinted about it, and also hypocritically said Cam’s crush on House was ‘played-out’. Whatever DShore, do what your goddamn fans want and don’t tell them what they NEED.

I am looking forward to more House, new episodes means new opportunities for some precious Hameron moments!!

  44. Marty says:

The chemistry between House and Cameron was intense and sexy. Why the writers strayed away from the relationship is difficult to fathom. House has kissed Cuddy and Stacey, the kiss scene with Cameron was tender yet erotic. They were very convincing. The touching and staring into each other’s eyes was beyond description. Cuddy’s is hard, abrasive and dresses much like a left over from a brothel. Stacey didn’t appear to enjoy kissing House.

  45. Apri says:

    Forever Hameron!

House needs someone like Cameron to keep his place, not Cuddy!

  46. marita says:

wow, im so glad to see some hamerons!!! i was tired of all the huddyness!!!

    HAMERON 4EVER!!!

  47. Sarah says:

    HUDDY BABY!!!

  48. Confused says:

Okay, that’s the thing I don’t understand about people, who don’t know what a shipper is. MOST Shippers like a certain pairing because they like the IDEA of those two getting together. Not necessarily because they think the two characters will get together.

And that’s the case with me. I like Hameron, but I basically agree with what Lexi said. “A happy House — would not be very House – like.” I don’t think he’ll end up with anyone.

  49. ipod says:

OMG. No Hameron. It completely makes me wanna puke, no offense. Cameron is annoying and that ship sailed long ago. Also, she’s too nice for House. And how would a Huddy relationship be boring? With House and Cuddy in the same relationship, there is no way that it could be boring. It’s so obvious that he cares for her (end of ‘The Itch’, end of ‘Joy to the World’ etc) so I respect your opinions Hameron fans, but you had all your moments in the earlier seasons now let the Huddy fans have theirs.

  50. formiga says:

Huddy relationship makes more sence than Hameron.Cameron is too Cameron for House, Cuddy is a strong woman and they already have one relationship(weirdy but it is tthere) and Hameron don’t.
