Thirteen Has a New Name

August 10, 2008 by Lynn

At the beginning of season 4 of House, the official FOX web site had the names of the finalists for House’s team on the site. At that time, they showed Olivia Wilde’s character’s name as “Remy Hadley.”

After the cast started to call her Thirteen, they took her character’s real name off the site and let her go by Thirteen for the rest of the season. The only hint at her real name was when Cuddy called her Dr. Hadley.

Now, her identity has been put back on the FOX site, but now it is a bit different than before. See what I mean:

I’m thinking “oh hell no” she did NOT just take my name. I’m assuming it’s pronounced ray-na (like mine).

  2. Grace says:

Stupid mistake. Thankfully, David said that she will continue to go by “13″. I wish she would just GO.

  3. Jo says:

She is neither a ‘Remy’ nor a ‘Rena’ – it doesn’t suit her. But I don’t really care about her name, because I really don’t care about her. I agree Grace, I wish she would just go as well!

  4. Tammy says:

All this fuss about her name and it isn’t even worth it. It was just a way to make her more special than she really is. Her character is the one I care LESS about and I want her to leave already. She takes away screen time from more important characters and we’re stuck with having her pushed on our screen every episode.

  5. Caine says:

Why are we discussing this at all?
I mean, would you have been interested if Cameron’s first name had been changed from Alison to Andrea or something at some point in season 1? Or Chase’s from Robert to Richard if you wish.
After 4 seasons, Foreman’s first name has not permanently registered with me.

Those names are simply not important. They just go by their last names or 13.

Where is all the animosity towards Thirteen/Dr. Rena Hadley coming from? I think she’s the best of the new characters. She’s an enigma to House since she’s the only one he can’t size up in a nutshell and her being diagnosed with Huntington’s makes her “wounded” just like like him. I’ve been a fan of the show since the first episode and can’t wait for the dynamic between them to develop. Oh, and by the way, SHE’S DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!

  8. Kylie says:

In my opinion Thirteen is the WORST of all the new characters. She thinks she’s better than everybody else and most of all, her character in itself is so boring and so contrived that you’d wonder why they’d even bother revealing her name. The terrible character and poor acting by Olivia Wilde makes this character seem less interesting as the episodes roll on.

  9. Mayra says:

Personally, I think Kutner is the worst of the new characters. He’s just not believable to me as a doctor. C’mon, KUMAR??? Get real. Oh, and don’t get me started on Taub. A philandering plastic surgeon with severe insecurities (it’s why most men cheat.) I loved it every time CTB emasculated him. Even the Ridiculously Old Fraud was more knowledgeable than him! I hoped when Foreman came back, House would hire 13 and CTB to complete the team and then found a place for ROF. 13 is the only one (besides Foreman) that’s worth seeing in a scene with House. Cameron brought out House’s humanity and 13 brings out his mortality. They aid the evolution of the House character.

  10. Caine says:

Mayra, you found the perfect words to express my attitude towards the newbies. ROF, CTB and 13 would have been great. I see why ROF had to go – he himself explained it very well and CTB’s arc made sense, too, but they would have been my dream team.
NEVERTHELESS: Above all of that I also think that the duckies will always be replacable. At the moment, I’m content the way everything logically worked out and am curious what the next personnel changes may bring (after the next two seasons at the latest).

  11. Grace says:

I LOVED the older guy!! He would have been a HOOT with House. Sure wish he could have stayed instead of 13. I saw a preview of a scene between House and 13 talking about her illness.
It wasn’t good and I didn’t care about it.
The writers are going to have to make us like her
    or let her go. IMHO

  12. Spike says:

The only reason people are discussing her name as much is because it isn’t known. She isn’t just enigmatic to House, she is to us aswell. We want to know more about her, so when her name is finally revealed, alot of people discuss it.

And this is a responce to Caine’s message. Rena’s name wasn’t changed, she obviously wasn’t called Remy to start with.

  13. Tammy says:

Actually before they took it off, Fox had put Remy Hadley on the tag. It was also on the ballot form in the show that a few observant viewers noticed. They had a name for her, and even showed the public. But I guess they wanted a more feminine name for her.

I for one, don’t want to know more about her. In fact we know more about her in the short amount of time than we did for the original team and cast. They are definitely pushing her on to our screen, and people are discussing her, and not because they like her or care about her. It’s because people don’t like her.

  14. Joy says:

I agree with Grace, the writers are going to have to do a lot more to get me to like 13. I get that they didn’t want an all guy team. But why her? Even CTB would have been better. Or why not just bring Cameron back already?

Just another thought – didn’t anyone like the mormon guy? I thought that was an interesting character. He had a kid at home and the mom wasn’t in the picture. Plus it would have been fun to see how the whole betrayal between him and Kutner would have played out.

  15. Grace says:

Spike, I sure don’t want to know any more about her.
Joy, No, I didn’t care much for the Mormon guy
    either.
I just hope that season 5 is filled with lots of
    House and Wilson.

  16. agig112 says:

Well, I don’t know if this isn’t just a mistake… On foxflash.com/fresh they wrote Dr. Remy Hadley on Olivia Wilde’s profile

  17. Felix says:

I just don’t get where some of you people are coming from. I’ll agree to disagree since everyone is entitled to their opinion but I’ve found 13 to be the most interesting of the new ducks. She’s impressed House with her intelligence from the beginning “do you spend time above 20,000 feet?” and “drugs are always a mask for something else” come to mind. Anyone notice the scene where he gives her her Huntington’s results looked remarkably like when he gave Cameron her HIV results in season 2? I’m guessing the difference in their reactions was written in to tell the viewer “SHE’S NOT A STAND-IN FOR CAMERON!” Kutner proves what we’ve been thinking for four years: if Chase wasn’t so pretty to look at, he’d be a tool and we wouldn’t care. Taub’s character is inadequate for the flow of the show because his issues (being a cheater) won’t be sympathized with by half the viewers (women) and we already have a damaged male lead to care about despite his faults-HOUSE. 13 is damaged through no fault of her own. She inherited the gene for Huntington’s. Much like the little girl in AUTOPSY, her character shows HOUSE to carpe diem (seize the day). If we can believe that complex FBI cases can be solved with math (NUMB3RS is a great show too) then why not a terminally ill doctor that chooses to save lives while living with the knowledge that she can’t save herself. It’s a perfect paradox for House to ponder and eventually, learn from. So the writers got stuck on what her name would be? So what? It’s not the name itself that matters but the moment where it’s officially revealed on the show because it’s been kept a mystery. Lastly, I agree with Will-she IS drop dead gorgeous! Lisa Edelstein, Jennifer Morrison and now Olivia Wilde!?!? The sexiest women on TV all on one show. As Wilson said, WE ARE ALL THAT GUY.

  18. Camille says:

isn’t it suppose to be dr. rema hadley…

  19. Grace says:

I really don’t know nor do I care what her name is anymore….never did actually.

  20. Alicia says:

Wow, from Remy to Rena to Rema to Remy(again).
    It’s a never ending cycle of indesisive-ness!
Anyways, despite everyone who seems to think she is a waste of screen, I like her. :) But I guess we are all entitled to our own opinion. And honestly, I think she is the most interesting and important one of the new fellows.
Why bother? Her true name has always been there: Thirteen.
CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEW SEASON 5!
HOUSE IS THE BEST SHOW EVER.

  21. kriston says:

I think people don’t like her because not much is known about her. People tend to shun what they don’t understand.
I think that half of what makes her likeable is that she doesn’t feel it necessary to talk about herself all the time. I don’t think that it is her character’s intention to be a mystery. I think that she just wants to keep her personal life personal. It’s why she neither confirmed or denied her sexuality. She let’s the others speculate about her without really contributing one way or another. She just wants to be the best d@mn docotr she can be.
Thirteen and House have a very good rapportand I like whenever they share the screen. She always challenges him and isn’t afraid to stand up to him. I think that House is intrigued by her because she doesn’t like to wave her problems in everyone’s face. She doesn’t want anyone to look at her or treat her any differently.
I liked that everyone just called her Thirteen, it just added to her unwillingness to go into her personal life. However, it is good to know that she has real name now ;)

  22. that girl who loves jesse spencer says:

rena? but once she went to forman and said REMY hadley, and hes called her REMY where did rema come from?

  23. Courtney says:

Thirteen’s name will always, to fans, be Remy, but we call her by Thirteen anyways, so does it really matter? And, by the way, Kutner rocked. I cried for hours after he died.

  24. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the nice work Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
