Photos of the Final Scene in the House S5 Finale

May 14, 2009 by Lynn

I found a source for these great stills from the final scene of House episode Both Sides Now. In them, Wilson is dropping House off at the mental hospital where he will be checking in.

I think they are very powerful because we see the sadness on Wilson’s face as he lets his friend go. And it’s easy to see the pain on House’s face too. What a sad ending to the season!!

Think that the friendship bettewn House, Wilson and Cuddy is beautiful. Only best friends and real friendship can bear these things. They do all for House, even if he’s stupid to them. But we can see the he sadness on Wilson’s face as he lets his friend go. The pain on House’s face, and even the sadness on Cuddy in the marriage. That’s what friends are for

WIlson and House are simply best friends, and their friendship is so unique it’s wonderful. It’s great that Wilson is still there for him after all that happened in the seasons 4 finale.

  3. Greg says:

It’s what I’d call a TRUE friendship. No matter what happened or will happen in the future, they’ll always be there for each other.

i remember in the episode The Social Contract the one where Wilson goes to talk to his schizophrenic brother, and House went along with him. okay, so he kinda got the whole solve-the-case epiphany and totally ignored wilson for a bit but still, its’ the thought. and in the lift at the end of the ep house asks if wilson wanted that social contract. and it’s in his answer that you really get a sense of their relationship, the mutual honesty and concern. i love their bromance.

I can’t help it, but I’m obsessed with that part where House gives Wilson his watch.
I know it doesn’t mean anything. He’s not alowed to have it on the hospital, so he gives it to Wilson so that he can take care of it twmporarily…
But I’m a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, and I’m looking for “Holmes” references all the time in “House MD”. And therefore, I come to think of this peculiar link:
Watson had a watch. It had belonged to his brother. In reality, Doyle (the author to Sherlock) had a watch that had belonged to his father. BUT, since his father was comitted to an ASYLUM, Doyle had recieved it.

And yes, I allready know that I’m quite the opposite to intelligent and logical. ^^

(I might add that it’s only part of a tv-show about Conan Doyle where he apparently got a watch from his father, so it didn’t necessarily happened in reality)
Ok, now you can flame me.

@ Poe: Try to do some research into John Bell. He was the guy Doyle knew that inspired him to write his Holmes stories. Bell was a doctor and in a way the founder of pathology. He was also good at diagnostics and could perform feats like House did back in “Occam’s Razor” (I think it was this one.), where he just looked at the people waiting in the clinic and diagnosed them by just looking at them.

The shots say so much more than the show. Wilson and House just seem to have that mutual respect for each other where words are not required for them to know what they can’t seem to say to each other. Robert and Hugh did an amazing job with this scene, I don’t know that it would have had the same effect if someone else from the team had driven House to the hospital. I have read that Hugh Laurie has a contract with Fox/House MD until 2012 it would be interesting to know how long Robert Sean Leonard has been signed on for. I do admire the cast of House, they have certainly given us a great show, while Hugh Laurie no doubt is the show the supporting group of people certainly do their best to make him look good. It’s going to be a long summer waiting for Season 5 DVD’s to hit the shelves and Season six to start. I certainly hope there’s some interesting news around to keep us going until then………..We all need to know what Hugh laurie is up to………….

  8. @ Greg & Poe: The episode is “Sports Medicine,” 12th episode of the 1st season. “Occam’s Razor” is still an impressive episode as he displays an understanding of simplicity and probability.

  9. Sheila says:

I agree that the handing over the personal effects….especially the watch…to Wilson, was specifically linked in the scene’s editing to the exchange of rings between Chase & Cameron. A gestures that represents the bond of trust between two people. Wilson is now the keeper of House’s former self. Some situations are just too painful for the spoken word and HL and RSSL said it all with their eyes, especially as the door to the asylum closed on House. Fear and shame for House; support , love and encouragement from Wilson. God…I hope they have liberal visiting hours ! What a scary looking place.

  10. Poe says:

@Greg: Ah, you mean Joseph Bell? Yeah, I knew about him before I started to watch House MD. :) Mostly due to a british tv-show named “Murder rooms” with the amazing (and unfortunately deceased) Ian Richardson as Joseph Bell. (Ian has also, by the way, played Sherlock Holmes in “The hound of Baskerville” and “The sign of four” XD)
Seems like House is a mix between Bell and Watson. ^^ Both are doctors, but one got the brain, and one got the limp. :)

  11. Diane says:

Reminded me of “Beautiful Mind”. VERY EMMY worthy!!

Wilson’s ‘eyes’ are EMMY worthy! ;)

  12. heather says:

did house go to the same place as wilson’s brother? i couldn’t remember the name of that place when i was watching this episode..

  13. Lokun says:

@Heather: Well, I’m not sure… =/ It SHOULD be the same place, right?
It feels kinda weird if they suddenly bring back Wilson’s brother and makes him mentally ill just a few episodes before House’s own mental breakdown. 0-o It sounds like they at least should meet each other or something…
