Olivia Wilde Appeared at Comic Con

July 31, 2009 by Lynn

House star Olivia Wilde was a speaker at Comic Con over the weekend. [Thanks, Grace for letting me know!] She was there on a panel to talk about her new movie Tron: Legacy that she just finished filming. Here’s a photo of her at the event with Garrett Hedlund.

I told you a while back about her work on the movie this summer and the word is that the filming has completed. Here’s a bit of a synopsys of the movie.

House Guest Star News for Season 6

Many thinks to House is Right reader Sandra for letting me know about this House season 6 spoiler tidbit.

She let me know that German actress Franca Potente will be a guest star on an upcoming episode of House. Sadly, I don’t read German, but Sandra was kind enough to give me the rough translation for this item from the German interview where Franca mentions her appearance on the show. Here’s the original:

Woran arbeiten Sie derzeit?

Ich habe gerade zwei Episoden meiner Lieblingsserie „Dr. House“ abgedreht, was wahnsinnig Spaß gemacht hat.

And here’s Sandra’s translation:

She said that she has “just finished shooting two episodes of her favorite TV-show, House, which was great fun.”

After a little digging, I found out that she’ll be in the 2-hour season 6 premiere episode that will take place in the mental hospital. No word yet whether she’s going to be a patient, a doctor, or a hallucination, but will let you know more as soon as the details emerge.

Thanks so much to House is Right reader Josephine for sending me the tip about this terrific Hugh Laurie link. I don’t have permission to post the actual photos of Hugh Laurie here, but you can go see them on the Vanity Fair web site.

Hugh Laurie and a bunch of other actors were featured in a new photo book where they were given situations, then photographed acting the part. Hugh is terrific in the three scenarios pictured on the site of him.

If you want to know about the photo book itself, here’s the basic premise:

Photographer Howard Schatz had an idea: place actors in a series of roles and dramatic situations to reveal the essence of their characters. Such was the premise behind his book, In Character: Actors Acting, which captures some of Hollywood’s most emotive stars in the act of, well, making faces.

More Mental Hospital Filming News

July 25, 2009 by Lynn

Thanks so much to Grace, a regular reader of House is Right for this great tip!

According to NJ.com, the crew for House was back this week at the old abandoned mental hospital in New Jersey to film. They had a closed set, so no one was allowed to hang around and get details and photos. There’s a snapshot of the front of the building and the posting about the filming on the NJ.com site, so be sure to go check it out.

The show calls the building Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital (check out the door in the photo above), but the real name of the structure is Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. Here’s a bit of background on the place:

Greystone dates to 1876, when it opened as a state-of-the-art mental health facility. It eventually became a nearly half-million-square-foot ruin. Only the old hospital’s center portion housing administrators remained open in recent years, but it was abandoned last year when a new Greystone opened nearby.

Greystone previously was a setting for the film “Marvin’s Room” in the mid-1990s, when Meryl Streep and Leonardo DiCaprio came there for three days of shooting.
