I have recently been noticing scenes have been cut from the season 5 episodes that USA is showing. I hope that the DVDs being released in a few days contain the original, uncut episodes, instead of the edited ones currently being shown on USA network. For example in “Last Resort”, the full version aired by Fox had at least one scene, and I think two, that are not in the versions aired on the USA network here in America. The scene that I know for a fact was cut from the one on USA was the one where House was explaining why some of the hostages (himself included) could not get test doses of the drugs being given to the kidnapper. That was interesting, and crucial to the story, and should not have been cut.
I think that the same thing happened in “Birthmarks” too, that the version shown on USA is not the full version shown on Fox. I think the “Birthmarks” episode on USA network is 38 minutes, whereas the original shown on Fox is 42 minutes or something like that. I can’t be certain but I think I saw that time difference.
I certainly hope that NBC Universal puts the original, uncut episodes on the DVDs, not the edited ones that NBC Universal is showing on USA network.
I’ve noticed USA has been abruptly inserting commercials where there hasn’t been a natural break, especially near the end of the episode. These episodes are made for TV so they have timed segments where commercials are shown. Fooling around with the natural breaks disrupts the flow of the show.
Yes, I’ve noticed that too (the unusual places to put commercial breaks). I’m actually quite disappointed with what USA Network is doing to the House episodes that they show.
Something else disturbing that I’ve noticed on USA Network. I wish that I had some way of letting the network execs know this. On their HD channel, they are showing episodes from earlier seasons in standard def, when I know for a fact that they are all (from all seasons) available in hi def. iTunes has all five seasons available for sale in hi def. What makes me so irritated about this is, when I have to pay extra for hi def service from my cable company, the networks should respect that we are paying extra for hi def service by making sure that they are, indeed, showing the hi def episodes instead of the standard def ones. Every episode from Seasons 1 through 4 that I have on my TiVo from USA Network’s hi def channel is in standard def, but every episode from every season that I downloaded from iTunes into my iPod is in hi def.
My non-House-phile friends think I’m crazy but considering what my cable bill is, I think we deserve better than to have entire scenes cut out of episodes, extra commercials inserted at points that were obviously not originally planned by the show’s execs, and standard def episodes shown on hi def channels when they’re all available in hi def.
