What Do You Think of Last Night’s House Episode?

I never watch TV shows right when they air. It’s one of the things that happen when I want to watch several that air at the same time. (I love my TiVo.) So when I got to finally watch last night’s House episode, I got to thinking about it in a big way. Then I started to wonder what all of you thought about it.
First of all, it’s interesting that one of the unusual illnesses I talked about recently was discussed as one of the possible diagnoses for the POTW. For a while, they thought he had alien hand syndrome.
We were told that it would be the most shocking House episode ever. Did it live up to that? I’d say that it was a strong second to the episode where Kutner died, but that it did definitely come as a surprise. (If you haven’t watched it yet…you should come back to read the rest of this post after you watch it. This is no surprise you want to be spoiled.)
First of all, I was wondering last week why the love scene between House & Cuddy was so extremely short. Now it seems to make more sense. But now I’m sad that it wasn’t real. Huddy fans, what are your thoughts on this?
I was really enjoying the happiness that House showed when he woke up and found Cuddy’s lipstick by the bathroom sink. And the way he was so happy all day long at the hospital was cute too. But I knew something bad was going to happen next when he announced to the whole hospital about their interlude.
It was a big surprise to me that House saw Kutner in the room…I should have noticed his name in the press release, but I didn’t. But somehow, I think that’s what David Shore wanted…
We now know why they did the “top secret” filming at the closed mental hospital in New Jersey. It had to be for the scene with Wilson dropping off House. Now I wonder what next season will bring us. Will episodes take place with House as a patient…helping to diagnose patients over the phone?

An Opinion About House Season 4
November 26, 2007 by Lynn
One of the columnists at TV Guide, Matt Roush, answered this question about House season 4:
Question: I have been loving the shake-up on House and the way that it has reinvigorated the show. The interactions between House and his team were getting so predictable last season; even the cases were getting old. The addition of new team members (particularly the ones who have stuck around), with their unique skill sets and personalities, have brought new interest to the medical storylines. Yet the spoilers make it sound like things will eventually go back to the way they were before. Phooey on that, I say! Let Foreman and House continue to be collaborating/bickering colleagues, Cameron a thorn-in-his-side/potential love interest (which they clearly want to do anyway) and Chase… just a presence in the background, I guess. Let the remaining fellows be the new team. What do you think?— Liz V.
Matt Roush: Not being a spoiler fiend, I’m not sure how the storylines in the back half of the season will play out — if in fact there is a second half of the season. As you will notice, I’m keeping strike talk and speculation to a minimum in this week’s column, out of deference to the encouraging news that talks are resuming today between the writers’ and studios’ representatives. Beginning of the end of the strike? Let’s hope. Back to House: I’ve also enjoyed the season so far and appreciate the producers’ efforts to shake things up and refresh the franchise while never losing sight of why we tune in to begin with. At the same time, watching House’s former colleagues be so marginalized has felt like a waste. I’m hoping as the show continues to evolve, with House’s new and old teams colliding — how and when and if this will happen, I’m just as happy not to know for now — that the writers will continue to explore the new dynamics and not let things fall back so rigidly to the old formula.

Book Review #2: The Medical Science of House, M.D.
October 17, 2006 by Cory
Diane Kristine at BlogCritics.org has another review of The Medical Science of House, M.D., and this one’s more favorable. She is a self-confessed fan of the show but quickly points out that the book isn’t really about the show. “It’s mostly a Dummies Guide to the Health Care Industry, with the show as its jumping off point, so anyone reading specifically for real insight into House might be disappointed.” That said, she accepted the book for what it is and enjoyed it.
Here’s the bottom line for her:
The perspective on the character of House is far different in Holtz’s book than on the small screen. The renegade hero of fiction is the dinosaur of reality, according to one physician: “In some ways, it is a vision from years past of the doctor as an iconoclastic, brilliant, virtuoso free spirit, who does it his own way and the hospital is there to do his bidding.”
Fortunately, Holtz’s informative book never loses sight of the fact that an iconoclastic, brilliant, virtuoso free spirit is likely to be far more interesting than the tamed doctors who supposedly exist today. Plus, the glimpse of how well House stays rooted in reality, while taking liberties for dramatic flair, actually highlights the beautiful balancing act performed by the show each week.
Book Review: The Medical Science of House, M.D.
Linda Lamb has a brief review of Andrew Holtz’s book, The Medical Science of House, M.D. It’s none too favorable. Seems Mr. Holtz has taken our fascinating little show and sucked the life out of it. At one point she actually uses the expression “blah, blah, blah,” to describe the book.
Now, I haven’t read the book. Perhaps she’s dead on. But I’m a little suspect of her judgment since she states that the show is just beginning its second season. She’s only a year off, but that seems like an easy one to get right.
Have any of you read the book? Is it “blah, blah, blah,” or it is a bit more interesting than that?
