Many thanks to House is Right reader Grace for calling my attention to an article about a recent AMA recommendation to ban the wearing of white coats by doctors. And today’s House-ism just seemed like the perfect tie-in for the article in Slate Magazine that tells us this:

The American Medical Association voted Tuesday on a resolution that would recommend hospitals ban doctors’ iconic white lab coats, citing evidence that the garment contributes to the spread of infection.

So, go figure, House really was Right!! ;-)

There are actually several reasons that the medical community is divided about the wearing of the coats. Doctors are split in their opinions because of these reasons.

Those in Favor of White Coats Argue:

  • the coat instills docs with a humbling sense of responsibility
  • puts patients at ease

Those against Use of White Coats Say:

  • an alienating symbol of medical hubris
  • the coats harbor potentially harmful bacteria
  • may cause “white coat hypertension”

What are your opinions about the coats? do you think doctors should wear them, or not? Let us know!

Jesse Spencer Looks Afraid of Monsters

April 12, 2009 by Lynn

I found this very cute photo of House’s Jesse Spencer and his girlfriend Louise Griffiths at the premiere of Hugh Laurie’s newest movie Monsters vs. Aliens.

I know that a lot of House fans would love nothing more than to see him get back together with Jennifer Morrison, but I think when he’s with Louise he seems happier than I’ve ever seen him. And she just seems like a very warm and nice person to me. I am glad they are together. They seem great for each other!

Hugh Laurie and His Evil Laugh

March 11, 2009 by Lynn

Many thanks to Grace for the heads up about this fun little clip of Hugh Laurie in the studio for Monsters vs. Aliens. It’s only three seconds long, but it’s so much fun to hear him laugh in that evil way for his character Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D. See what I mean:

And so that you can see his animated character doing the laugh, here’s another short clip. This time, we hear Dr. Cockroach talk a bit too.

And for one more fun comparison, here’s a clip from episode 2.14 that features Hugh doing the same evil laugh for Cameron and Chase when they ask if he wants to cure death:

Hugh Laurie & Lisa Edelstein in the Photo Booth

February 7, 2009 by Lynn

This is a totally cute little video clip from ET with Lisa Edelstein and Hugh Laurie talking about kisses. Hugh says that he’s so shy he doesn’t even like the other person to be there. Lisa reveals her worst kiss ever, and then they do the “Stare Down.” It’s adorable!

A Bit of Classic Fry & Laurie

January 29, 2009 by Lynn

Thanks to Betsy for the tip about this hilarious bit from early in Hugh Laurie’s career. In the UK, everyone knows that Stephen Fry, who is one of Hugh Laurie’s closest friends to this day, used to be his comedy partner and they had a show called A Bit of Fry & Laurie. During those years, the two performed tons of comic bits and I put one out here every now and then for you to enjoy. This one is new to me. They were guests on another show that I’m not familiar with. I hope you enjoy this Piano Master Class:

House 100th Episode B-Roll

January 15, 2009 by Lynn

We’ve already seen the photos of the giant House 100th episode celebration cake with the cast behind it, but here’s the B-roll that gives us the whole picture! Hugh, being the comic genius that he is, displayed his precise surgical tchnique with the cake. LOL!

And the part that really cracks me up is that they were putting the pieces of cake into those little pans hospitals use when patients throw up. Not to mention the other surgical tools being used on the cake! What a hoot!

And stay tuned until the end, because there’s a perplexing image of House being tattooed…? I hope we get to find out the story about that one…

Fry & Laurie Tackle Linguistic Conundrums

August 24, 2008 by Lynn

Linguistic elasticity…who else would have a comedy bit based on such a subject but Fry & Laurie? In this very funny clip, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry take a look at language. They humorously attempt to answer this question:

Is our English language, as we know it, capable of sustaining demagoguery?

Hugh Laurie’s “translations” are fabulous! You have to watch to understand how funny it is:

Fry & Laurie Examine the Word “Gay”

August 24, 2008 by Lynn

Here’s another hilarious bit from Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry from the first season of A Bit of Fry & Laurie. They take a look at the odd use of such British terms as “Gay.” And in their characteristic style, they take things far off in some strage direction, leading to nothing less than funny silliness. I love them!

Fry & Laurie: Dancercise

August 24, 2008 by Lynn

Many thanks to Grace for tip about this hilarious clip from Hugh Laurie’s former British hit show, A Bit of Fry & Laurie. It all starts with Stephen Fry telling us the “definition” of dancercise….and gets more absurd from there. I couldn’t help but laugh and hope you will too:

Hugh Laurie on the Ellen Show

May 14, 2008 by Lynn

This is a clip from Hugh Laurie’s appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show this week. Ellen & Hugh are quizzing each other about British and American slang words. My personal favorite is BA-DONKA-DONK. Hugh’s reaction to the word is fantastic!! He’s so cute in interviews! ;-)
