Dr. Nolan agrees to write a recommendation to reinstate House’s medical license only if House agrees to further treatment. When House is moved to a new ward in the hospital, he develops a close relationship with his new roommate, Alvie (guest star Lin-Manuel Miranda), and Lydia (guest star Franka Potente), a frequent visitor who helps House bend the rules. MICKEY: Good news for some of you — no Thirteen in the season premiere! More good news: House’s Cuckoo’s Nest routine is infinitely entertaining. The much-spoiled trip to the carnival is surprisingly more touching than I’d imagined. In the Heights’ Lin-Manuel Miranda and Andre Braugher are both fantastic. I had a feeling we hadn’t seen the last of this guy: Michael Weston is returning to House this fall as private eye Lucas Douglas, sources confirm to me exclusively.

We first met Lucas last fall when House hired him to tail his then-estranged BFF Wilson. After appearing in multiple episodes, the character abruptly disappeared without explanation. At the time, series creator David Shore said Lucas was brought in primarily to play off of House. “But once Wilson came back,” he added, “we didn’t dramatically have a need for him anymore.”

So what brings him back? A Fox rep declined to comment beyond confirming that Weston will appear in an episode that goes into production this week. Perhaps the PI becomes a patient? Or maybe House is finally getting down to the business of solving Kutner’s “murder”? I’m spitballing here people.

Weston’s return will no doubt trigger fresh speculation about the Lucas-centered spinoff that Shore and fellow exec producer Katie Jacobs had been toying with. The project never got off the ground, but Shore was quick to note that the decision not to move forward “had nothing to do with” Weston. [Source: EW]

MICKEY: “That’s not quite the story,” Lisa Edelstein says of the recently reported mercy-killing storyline. “They have some problems with a secret and when your partner is keeping a secret from you, you can’t help but have your mind wander about what that secret is. Ausiello: Yes, I’ve seen the premiere. And yes, there are some steamy goings-on between House and Franka Potente she-who-shall-not-be-named. As far as it being a slap in the face to Huddy fans, I would urge you to watch the (mostly excellent) episode before drawing any conclusions. I consider myself a Huddy fan and it didn’t really bother me — but that’s probably because I possess insider knowledge that Huddy is far from over. Plus, as exec producer Katie Jacobs points out, sex is so overrated. “The thing is this: real sparks and chemistry, which is what House and Cuddy have, are there,” she says. “That’s sort of hard to create. I don’t personally get hung up on whether they have sex, per se. I don’t mean any disrespect to the fans. Sex is great. But, whether they do it or not is sort of not the issue, exactly. They have an attraction. It’s an intense attraction. It’s intellectual. It’s physical. Where it will lead in the future, I really don’t know. But it has not dissipated.”

Question: Have we found out what brings Michael Weston’s Lucas back to House?

Ausiello: I’m not sure if we have, but I have. Remember me telling you last week about the little business trip House, Wilson, and Cuddy go on in episode 7? Well, I hear Lucas is tagging along! [Source: EW]

Question: Has it dawned on anyone that Taub and Thirteen’s three-year fellowships are about to end on House? Do you know if the show plans to follow through on that? And, if so, does this mean Peter Jacobson and Olivia Wilde are leaving? —Mindy

Ausiello: It certainly dawned on me. And it dawned on series creator David Shore — at least it did when I reminded him recently. He says he hasn’t figured out what will happen to Taub and Thirteen after their fellowships expire. Luckily, time is on his side. “It won’t be until the end of the season,” he says, adding that it’s not in his nature to gloss over such plot points. “I don’t like those things to be fake-outs.” What do you think? Question: Will Cuddy find out that House had real sex with that woman (a.k.a. Franka Potente) while in the asylum? —Gregory

Ausiello: Not anytime soon, according to Lisa Edelstein. “She doesn’t know about the real girl or the real sex he has in the season premiere,” she says. “So far in scripts I have read she has not acknowledged that she knows. They certainly haven’t discussed it. It might break her heart.” Regardless, Edelstein says the House-Cuddy dynamic “continues to have its ups and downs” this season. “She has to eventually deal with him coming back [to work] and what his role will be and how will she handle him and what kind of state is he coming back in. They have feelings for each other — deeper than colleagues. But who knows if they will ever be right for each other? They never seem to be coming at each other at the same time. We are having fun no matter how we play it. Being at odds and playing off Hugh is great fun. If we ever get together I just don’t want it to seems false or forced, but I trust Katie and David to make the right moves.”

Natalie in New York City: Chase is actually getting a real storyline on House? I still can’t really believe it. Chase fans have been waiting way too long for something like this!

Yep, Chase is plenty busy this season. Jesse Spencer spills to us, “I’m back on the team. It’s kinda old-school: Cameron and Chase, kickin’ it old-school. The merging of the teams is a work in progress. People are back and forth, and in and out, but I think very soon it’s going to be a complete conglomeration of old and new. It’s going to be a new dynamic for the team, which I think is going to be really good.” Spencer adds, “I’ve got a lot of storylines coming my way. There’s a bit of dodgy doctoring going on. But dodgy doctoring is all we do on the show. Bend the rules a little bit–that’s what House does. If House was practicing medicine [in the real world], he’d have lot his license on day one.”

Kelly in Wichita, Kan.: Thanks for the interviews with Hugh Laurie, Lisa Edelstein and the House producers, but where is the rest of the gang?

Patience, young Jedi. Olivia Wilde tells us that House’s eventual return to the hospital causes a great deal of disruption. “House has changed, and that means our environment has changed. Everyone approaches House’s recovery differently. They all have very different relationships to him this season, and it reveals a little bit more about similarities that some of us may have with House.”

Peter Jacobson (an actor we always enjoy speaking with) says Taub’s just fine with House being gone from Princeton-Plainsboro: “Taub is somewhat relieved to not be the subject of such abuse, as he has been. For Taub it is actually a little bit frustrating, because there are a lot of dynamic shifts and different politics on the team and in the hospital, because House isn’t as he was. We don’t always necessarily know who is in charge. I came to the hospital for very specific reasons, three years ago, and I’m not sure those reasons are sustained at the moment.” OK, but give us one more good tease about the season! Question: I loved your interview with Lisa Edelstein on the Emmy red carpet. Do you know how many episodes Michael Weston’s character, Lucas, will be around on House? —Reana

Ausiello: More than one but less than 80.

Question: With House getting out of the asylum, does that mean we have seen the end of Anne Dudek as Amber? I hope not! —Patrick

According to our favorite frenemy, Jennifer Morrison’s run as Dr. Allison Cameron on House will end midseason, and her exit was a creative decision on the part of the producers. (Meaning Morrison didn’t quit; she was written out.)

OK, so that’s the alleged behind-the-scenes situation—according to a rep, “The show does not have any comment” on reports of Morrison’s exit—but forget the Hollywood drama. What drives Cameron to ditch her job at Princeton-Plainsboro after more than five years in House’s orbit?

Read on for the exclusive scoop we got from insiders on why Cameron leaves her husband and the hospital…

Here’s what sources spill about Cameron’s departure: After Chase treads a thin moral line on a case involving an African dictator, he and Cameron both decide they should get out of Princeton while the getting’s good. They plan to quit the hospital together and go somewhere else where they can focus on their relationship and on each other.

And then House gets involved. Because House (Hugh Laurie) is the devil. (Argh!)

House, who loves nothing more than to pour poison in the ears of his friends, starts talking to Chase about Cameron. House suggests that Cameron forgiving Chase for his misdeeds with the dictator is out of character for her.

Shortly thereafter, Chase has an inexplicable change of heart and decides he wants to stay with House after all. Cameron is understandably upset.

Harumph.

According to insiders, this all goes down around episode eight.

If nothing else, this certainly casts a new light on what Jesse Spencer told us at the House premiere party in Hollywood last week: “I’ve got a lot of storylines coming my way. Ausiello: I hope you’re sitting down Andie because I have some earth-shattering news for you. Cuddy and Lucas have already had sex. Lots of it. That’s what boys and girls do when they’re in a romantic relationship. Now, as far as the Feb. 8 episode goes, all I’ll say is that Cuddy does, in fact, have a sexual encounter.

And Jesse Spencer has been loving every minute of it. “Season 6 has been awesome,” he told me last night at Fox’s press tour party. “They’ve been writing some really good stuff for me. Sources confirm to me exclusively that Jennifer Morrison is heading back to House later this season. The timing and context of her return are being kept under wraps (read: I know but it’s too spoilery to reveal), but a House insider says, “You will see Cameron again on House before the end of the season.”

Morrison recently joined the Broadway revival of The Miracle Worker. It’s possible the actress will squeeze in her House comeback before the play starts previews next month. Her reply: “In season 4, people said, ‘Are you going to change the credits once you decide on who you are adding to the team?’ and I felt like it was awkward to switch in the middle of the season. I could have done it season 5. I certainly didn’t want to change anything [at the start of season 6] because we opened so differently. But now I am thinking about it. Question: Please tell us something about Jennifer Morrison returning to House! —Amy

Ausiello: I should’ve seen it coming! Here’s what Omar Epps told us about JMo’s exit and possible comeback last week at the People’s Choice Awards: “I definitely miss her… I certainly didn’t see it coming. I don’t think anyone did. She is a great person and I’d gotten used to seeing her most days of the year. [But] she is not officially gone. It isn’t like they killed her off. And even if they had, we’ve already had a dead person come back with Amber. So there is still a possibility.” The clues were everywhere! [Source: EW]

“You’ll see her before the end of this season, and next season we’ll figure out when this season is over,” says executive producer Katie Jacobs.

Jennifer, who wowed on the red carpet in a one of a kind gown by Puerto Rican designer Luis Antonio (a Christmas gift from her boyfriend), says news of her return so soon after her dismissal came as “a pleasant surprise. I totally understood when (the producers) let me know that they didn’t plan on continuing writing for my character, so if something else was offered I’d be available to do it. I have to look at this as everything happens for a reason. House will always be a home for me. I just want to be wherever I’m wanted and needed.”

Co-star Lisa Edelstein, who plays Dr. Cuddy, couldn’t be happier. “I love Jennifer,” she says. “It was very hard to watch that happen to her so I’m very excited to see her come back.”

So where has Cam been and what brings her back? “She’s been practicing medicine at another hospital,” says Jacobs. “There are certain things that are unresolved with Chase (Jesse Spencer), so she comes back seeking some sort of resolution. Whether it’s good or bad I won’t say.”

“The audience is going to get the information they were looking for,” says the actress, who declined to confirm the exact length or timing of her return except to tease that it occurs during a ”really smart episode.”

As for the circumstances surrounding her surprising departure, Morrison is more forthcoming, eager to make it clear that the decision to leave was not hers. “I love the show, and I love [Cameron],” she insists. “Under no circumstances would I ever decide on my own to leave.”

So what happened? She recounts: Executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs “came to me as we were leading up to episode 8 — which is the episode where I left — and said, ‘This is where we see the show creatively going, and [we're writing you out].’ And they very generously said, ‘We wanted to let you know so you knew you were available for other things, should they be offered.’ As far as I knew, there was nothing more.”

And what about the future beyond [The Miracle Worker], which will run at least through the spring? Although Morrison remains contractually bound to House next season, “I don’t believe that they have plans to pick up my option,” she confesses. “That does not mean I won’t be back for a handful of episodes, but it does mean I probably will not be a series regular next season.”

Naturally, looking back on her six-year run is bittersweet for her. But more sweet than bitter, it seems. “[Working on House has] been the most incredible blessing I could ever imagine,” she says. It’s been the most incredible people to work with and the most incredible character. But I have to respect the producers’ ideas of where the story is going.” [Source: EW]

We have very little control over our lives, so you can’t help but relate —whether or not the person it’s happened to feels it’s a good or bad thing. A few other tidbits from the very engaging, Lisa Edelstein-tastic hour: Cuddy has Isabel Allendes’ ‘Inés of My Soul’ on her nightstand; she starts her day off with yoga (and is very bendy); and she’s as obsessive with her Blackberry as I am with mine. “Huddy” fans, meanwhile, may enjoy Cuddy’s reaction to House getting a shirtless rubdown by a buxom blonde. OK, the bad news is that next Monday’s House ep, “5 to 9,” is Cuddy-centric and therefore riddled with Cuddy-Lucas PDA. Blech. On the other hand, the good news is that “5 to 9″ is Cuddy-centric and therefore riddled with scenes that reveal House and Cuddy’s genuine emotional and psychological intimacy, and that remind us fans why she loves that dude’s deranged narcissistic ass in the first place. If you Huddy fans can just squint through the Cuddy-Lucas scenes, you’ll find that when you come out the other side, the Huddy material is very rewarding.

Pete in Phoenix: Give me an update on House, stat!

Look for actor-comedian Orlando Jones to pop up in tonight’s House, bringing along a few surprises for his brother, Foreman (Omar Epps). We checked into reports that Orlando will possibly be back on a full-time basis next year, but a House rep tells us that the writers don’t yet know anything past this season.
